Shopaholic to the Stars by Sophie Kinsella | Review

This book is totally unrealistic with an insane plot, but like the other Shopaholic books, it’s fun. Personally, I can forgive a book for being pretty low quality if it’s at least fun. I had started reading another book the other day, Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen, and only made it to 60 odd pages before giving up on it. On the other hand, I started and finished Shopaholic to the Stars today. Whilst Queen of the Tearling may have had a more complex plot, it was boring. There are a lot of problems with the Shopaholic series, but you can’t deny that it’s addictive. Sophie Kinsella is a great writer in the way that all her books are easy reads. I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump lately, and this simple, fast paced story was perfect for that.

Shopaholic to the Stars is the 7th book in the Shopaholic series. I’ve spoken before about how the first Shopaholic book is one of my all time chick-lit favourites, and although the sequels went a bit downhill, I still enjoyed them. I actually enjoyed this more than I enjoyed most of the other books in the series. This book follows Rebecca Brandon (née Bloomwood) as she attempts to become a Hollywood stylist. As usual, Rebecca somehow manages to get herself into the most ridiculous situations. In the first book I found her endearing, but after 7 books her selfishness and ridiculous decision making does become annoying.

I think the key to enjoy these books is to suspend disbelief. Once you realise that, Shopaholic to the Stars is a fun, easy read that you’ll enjoy if you don’t take it too seriously.

Have you read the series? What did you think of it and which was your favourite?

Never read her books, but I’ve heard of her. If you like them, you should see Confessions of a Shopaholic. It’s a hilarious movie based on a book of the same name. I loved it.
Great review! Thanks for sharing that Queen of the Tearling was boring. I was thinking of picking that up. So thanks for the heads-up!
