This is a bit of a different post for me, but I visited the palace the other day with my friend and wanted to share some pictures. Linlithgow Palace is my favourite place to go and luckily it isn’t far from my home. I went inside the palace for the first time last year with my mum, and I loved it so much that I’ve been begging people to go with me again ever since. I finally persuaded Kayleigh to come with me after getting her obsessed with my favourite show Reign (Mary Queen of Scots was born in the palace).
The palace is right beside Linlithgow Loch so the view is amazing, even if you don’t want to go inside the palace you can still walk around it and sit by the Loch. There are also some information boards scattered around the Loch with facts about the palace, and a cool statue of Mary Queen of Scots outside the palace (please ignore how dreadful my hair is in that picture, it was super windy!). Annoyingly, the weather was pretty rubbish until it was time for us to leave so we didn’t spend much time outside.
The castle is really cool inside because it’s technically a ruin. They’ve only made a couple of changes to it for safety reasons, but almost everything has been left untouched so you can really imagine what it would have been like back in the day.
To be honest, I was mostly excited to go to the palace to stock up on Outlander merchandise from the palace gift shop. The show actually filmed here in season 1, which is so cool! When I went with my mum before they had the cutest coasters with Jamie and Claire on them, so I went determined to pick some of those up. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any of those so I was super disappointed, but there was still some cool things:
You could buy all the Outlander books, an Outlander cook book, scarves, fur cuffs, keyrings and Outlander inspired jewellery. You could get a necklace and earrings with the Dragonfly in Amber on them and a replica of Claire’s wedding ring! I’m not going to lie, I kind of want the ring.
I’m going to need someone to buy me Claire’s shawl for Christmas please.
You could also buy Jamie Fraser dolls! I didn’t really see the resemblance and didn’t know what I’d possibly need a doll for so I didn’t get one. I’ve literally just noticed the tag with decoration on it though, do you think it’s to hang on your Christmas tree? If that’s the case, I need one immediately.
I’m not 100% sure which scenes were filmed in the palace or what room it was, but I think it was some of the prison scenes in the final two episodes of season 1 (the most traumatising episodes of TV I’ve ever seen). From pictures I saw of the day of filming, I think it was possibly this room that the filming took place in:
I had such a good day out at the palace and would highly recommend visiting it if you ever get the chance. I actually took way more pictures than this, but I realised that I’m possibly the least photogenic person ever and had to leave most of them out. I hope you enjoyed this different post, please let me know if you’d like to see more of this kind of thing!
Have you ever visited the palace? Do you know any other cool castles I could visit?
Ahh, I just moved to Edinburgh so this isn’t too far away. I NEED to visit!
